Original files stay in your browser

Core PDF processing — including merging, splitting, converting, and encrypting — happens inside your web browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. The original files are not uploaded to our servers. Optional cloud storage and AI features are exceptions that run only after you explicitly choose them, as explained below.

AI PDF tools

When you run an AI summarization, question answering, information extraction, or translation task, 1PDF extracts readable text from the PDF locally. The original PDF is not uploaded, but the extracted text, your instruction, and limited recent chat context are sent through OpenRouter to the configured DeepSeek model. We request zero-data-retention routing and deny data collection where supported. Do not submit highly sensitive material, and verify important AI-generated results against the source document.

Optional cloud storage (Pro)

Local-only processing is the default. Nothing is uploaded unless you explicitly ask for it. If you have a Pro subscription, you can optionally choose “Save to cloud” after processing a document. Saved files are stored on Cloudflare R2 in EU or US data centers. Files from a monthly plan are kept for 30 days and files from a yearly plan for 1 year, then deleted automatically. You can also delete any saved file from your account page at any time.

Data we do not collect

  • We do not receive original PDF files unless you explicitly use Pro cloud storage.
  • Accounts are optional for local tools and required for Pro and AI features.
  • Analytics and advertising providers do not receive the PDF files or document contents processed locally by 1PDF.

Analytics and cookies

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use 1PDF and to improve the site. Clarity may process page visits, interaction events, and technical browser or device information. With analytics consent, Clarity may use non-essential cookies including _clck and _clsk. If analytics storage is denied, Clarity is limited to cookieless measurement. Clarity does not receive PDF files or locally processed document contents.

When enabled, Google Analytics 4 helps measure aggregate page visits, traffic sources, device categories, and approximate geography. We send the page path without query parameters and never send PDF files or document contents. With analytics consent, Google Analytics may use cookies beginning with _ga. When analytics storage is denied, the Google tag remains in denied Consent Mode and does not write analytics cookies.

More information is available in the Microsoft Privacy Statement and Google Privacy Policy.

Advertising

To keep 1PDF free, the site is supported by advertising through Google AdSense. Depending on your region and consent choices, Google may use cookies or similar storage to provide personalized, non-personalized, or limited ads. Google Privacy & Messaging manages applicable consent choices. Advertising providers do not receive PDF files or document contents processed locally.

Where the consent message applies, you may reject non-essential storage or later change or withdraw your choice using “Privacy & cookie settings” in the footer. You can also manage advertising preferences in Google My Ad Center.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider may record standard technical information when you load a page, such as IP address, browser type, and timestamp. These logs are used only for security and operational purposes and are not linked to any files you process.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the new policy.
